Coaching
 |
In the 2005-2006 school year we will expand the coaching component. The seven sites from the 2004-05 pilot year will be offered the option to receive additional coaching. The 2004-05 Quality Coach, Erica Lindamood will continue in 2005-06 and will begin working with old and new sites as early as possible, with most sites starting in September 2005. Old sites wishing to work with a new coach will have to wait until new coaches are hired. Erica Lindamood will be joined by 1-2 additional Quality Coaches in 2005-06. We will have a hiring committee process where by frontline staff as well as organizational leaders have a voice. The hiring process will occur between September and October with new coaches ready to work in November. A Request for Proposals (RFP) will be available for new sites in late September, due in late October. We are offering support based on the sites' needs including: assessment support, a lengthier first phase coaching, a shorter second phase and/or periodic check-ins. The tier system below provides further detail.
We will institute a Tier System that we expect to better meet the diverse needs of programs. The tiers are not progressive; sites in many cases would do some or all tiers in different orders. Proposals will be accepted from sites who wish to participate in the 2005-06 school year. The tiers are as follows:
- Tier #1 will include a quality coach providing assistance with assessment and prioritizing program improvement efforts (3-4 visits).
- Tier #2 will include a quality coach providing periodic check-ins to sites that may or may not have received more intensive coaching prior to the check-ins but would at least have had an assessment (5-6 visits).
- Tier #3 will include a quality coach continuing in a second phase after an initial lengthier period of coaching (10-12 visits). This would be for sites that participated in the 2005 pilot.
- Tier #4 will include the initial engagement with a quality coach intended to be an intensive and lengthier period of coaching with assessment and prioritizing built in (16-20 visits).
All sites receiving coaching in 2005-06 will, in conjunction with the coach, determine goals, a system for tracking progress and an agreed upon coaching approach. After the coaching is underway, at an agreed upon time early enough in the process a review will take place with the Agenda staff to determine whether the coaching relationship and plan is on track and/or whether a reassessment of the coaching is in needed.
History:
Coaching began in February 2005, a pilot with 8 sites that are currently and will continue to receive regular support.
Evaluation:
Evaluation efforts are focused on strengthening and improving Out-Of-School Time programming.
